“The Lover”

80 × 100 cm (31.5 × 39.4 in)

Acrylic on canvas

The Lover is the part of us that aches to be held. Feeling unwanted and unloved, she hungers for intimacy so deeply that she will take it from anyone, even a pair of grey, faceless hands that belong to no one she knows. Her body is split into borrowed colours, as if one of them might finally be enough to be loved. What she cannot yet see is that the love she is reaching for was never out there. It has been within her all along.
